Columbia River Concours d’Elegance Judging Criteria
OBJECTIVE:
To create an event that awards excellence.
To reward originality
To reward adherence to quality
To reward quality preparation
To have an event that all participants are equally judged irrespective of past performance or knowledge within the community.
To have all judging results available to the entrants so that individuals understand how their cars were judged.
To have judges that are above prejudice and are able to dismiss any past knowledge of the owners or past history of all vehicles.
PROCEDURES:
All vehicles shall be judged in three categories.
Exterior: Including but not limited to quality of:
Paint or finish.
Fit of panels being appropriate for the vehicle.
Quality of chrome or other surface pieces.
Quality of rubber seals and other surface seals.
Interior: Including but not limited to quality of:
Correctness of patterns.
Originality of materials. Appropriateness of material based on time period and vehicle.
Material fit and finish.
Alignment of seams and components.
Lack of wear on components.
Mechanical: Including but not limited to quality of:
Originality.
Operation.
Cleanliness.
Lack of distressed components such as rubber components.
Appropriate paint and finish.
There shall be a minimum three judges for each class. Each judge shall be responsible for only one category i.e. Exterior, Interior, Mechanical. Judges may be assigned to more than one class. Any judge that has an investment in or association with any vehicle shall dismiss himself or herself for judging if that vehicle is included in a class that they are assigned to. The Senior Judge shall have final say as to final determination.
Scoring results will be mailed upon request to entrants. Scoring sheets shall remain with and are the soul property of the Concours. There shall be no adjustments of scoring sheets after the closing time. The Senior Judge shall have final say on any conflict or misunderstanding. There will be no appeal process. The judges shall have no contact with entrants during the judging period except during the actual judging.
Judges are not to open, close, operate or in anyway move any component on judged vehicles. Judges shall not touch, enter, sit upon or pass through any vehicle they are judging. Owner/entrant must be present during judging. Judges will request owner/entrant to open doors, hood, raise top, start and run car, etc. If owner declines any reasonable request the judge shall assume that the component concerned is defective and assess the maximum deduction. If the owner/entrant is not present when the judges approach their car the car shall be disqualified for judging.
The Senior Judge shall attempt to assign judges to each class that have knowledge of that class. Each judge shall realize that they must make the utmost attempt to fairly and equally judge each vehicle. It must be understood by judges and entrants that no individual has complete knowledge of any car. Criteria #3 above may require judges to be chosen who are not the most knowledgeable of the assigned class.
This event is not a popularity event.
